What is the MIPS® anti-rotation system?
The PST 900 ski helmet is equipped with the MIPS anti-rotation system. This is the yellow film under the helmet liner: this low-rub layer allows for multidirectional movement of 10 to 15 mm during certain oblique impacts, thereby reducing the rotational force transmitted to the head and brain, and thus limiting the risk of brain injury.
Does the helmet have semi-rigid ear pads? Are they effective in improving comfort?
Our PST 900 MIPS with semi-rigid ears covered with a shell. They provide excellent coverage of the ear (no cartilage pain and excellent hearing) and conform perfectly to the shape of the face (superior retention and no draughts).
Does the helmet have a liner?
The liner of our PST 900 MIPS helmet is not the warmest in our range. As this helmet is intended for frequent skiers, we wanted it to be ventilated and breathable. The areas (in light grey) with memory foam allow the helmet to conform perfectly to the shape of each person's head and reduce uncomfortable pressure points.
What kind of ventilation system does this helmet have?
The PST 900 MIPS helmet is very efficient in terms of thermal comfort. It has adjustable air vents (open/closed) that provide very good thermal comfort whatever the conditions.
Internal ventilation channels with an outlet grille at the back that allows excellent air flow.
Does this helmet have an adjustment wheel?
The adjustment wheel plays a key role in keeping your helmet secure. This system can be easily and precisely adjusted at any time using the easily accessible dial that you can even use with your skiing gloves. This makes it very comfortable and provides maximum safety. Turn the dial to the right to tighten and to the left to loosen.
How is this helmet built? What does “In-Mould” mean?
This type of structure, known as In-Mold, features a polycarbonate outer shell that is moulded directly to the EPS liner. The inner EPS liner absorbs shocks in the event of a collision. The whole thing is extremely lightweight. We recommend changing your ski helmet at least every 5 years unless it has sustained a significant impact in the meantime.
What is the EN 1077 Standard?
Standard EN 1077:2007 is a European standard that applies to helmets used for cranial protection during downhill skiing and snowboarding. This standard tests the ability to absorb shocks and resistance to penetration. There are 2 categories:
- Class A: protects the top and back of the head, as well as the ears and the side of the head
.
- Class B: Protects the top and back of the head but doesn't cover the ears.
How do I choose the right size?
A helmet that doesn’t fit properly won’t protect you: it is essential to check that the size is correct before hitting the slopes. This is an easy thing to do:
* Measure your head’s circumference in centimetres (around the middle of the forehead and just above the ears).
* Choose the size that covers this measurement.
* Your helmet should not move when you shake your head. You should be able to fit two fingers between the chin strap and your skin.
How do I try on the helmet?
Take plenty of time to try it on properly. You shouldn't feel any areas of discomfort. If you do then try another model. Always try your helmet with your mask, because not all helmets go with all masks. A helmet is compatible with a ski mask when there is no air space between the top of the mask and the helmet.
Any other safety tips?
Avoid putting a thick hat under your helmet as this will move the helmet away from your head and you won't be as well protected.
Opt instead for a very thin beanie or balaclava that does not affect your safety. A helmet has good insulating properties. There is often no point in adding anything else. Also, avoid adding a camera to your helmet as this can affect safety. The standard does not take into account any elements added to the helmet.
How do I look after my helmet?
Removable comfort foam machine-washable at 30°C. The ears of the PST 900 MIPS are not detachable.
Use only soapy water and a soft cloth to clean your helmet.
