    How to use snowshoes?

    Before putting them on, check which is the left and right: the buckles must be on the outer sides. 1) Make sure your foot is firmly planted at the front/rear for good support. 2) Tighten the straps or buckles as far as possible, depending on the model. The correct fit is essential for safety.

    Choose your snowshoes according to your weight

    The choice of snowshoes depends on the total weight (hiker plus rucksack) to ensure suitable buoyancy. Sizes vary according to body type and shoe size. Tip: 40-90 kg → medium sieve (UK 3.5 - 11.5); 60-120 kg → large sieve (UK 6.5-13/14).

    Heel lift for greater ease when climbing

    Opt for snowshoes with a heel lift for easier and more comfortable walking on slopes. This removable heel lift raises the heel. It can be used when climbing steep hills to reduce the effect of the slope and save energy.

    Using poles for increased stability when snowshoeing

    We strongly recommend using poles for greater stability when snowshoeing, especially on slopes or in powder snow. Choose wide baskets to prevent them from sinking in and to ensure a secure fit.

    Dress using the 3-layer technique

    To dress warmly in winter, follow the 3-layer principle: 1. a technical base layer to keep the skin dry, 2. an insulating layer for warmth, 3. a jacket to protect against rain, snow and wind. The outfit must remain breathable to wick away moisture.

    NEVER FORGET ABOUT SAFETY

    For off-piste hiking, make sure you are equipped with maps, a compass and/or GPS and carry an Avalanche Victim Detector, a shovel and a probe. These three things will help you to be found if you are caught in an avalanche, or to search for a victim.
