How is the warmth provided by the down jacket measured?
This down jacket was tested in a thermal chamber on a mannequin wearing a long-sleeved synthetic t-shirt and a lightweight fleece, with simulated wind at 5 km/h. This test confirmed a comfort temperature of -3°C during physical activity.
What are the benefits of a duck down and feather filling?
Duck down is particularly well suited to mountain sports thanks to three key qualities:
- Thermal insulation: by trapping air, duck down and feathers help to retain body heat.
- Ultra-lightweight: for the same warmth, down is lightweight compared to synthetic wadding.
- Ultra-compressible: to save space in the backpack when packed away.
What is fill power?
Expressed in CUIN, fill power refers to the thermal insulation capacity of down, which is achieved by trapping a certain volume of air. The higher the fill power (higher CUIN), the more space it takes up, the more air it traps and the more it insulates. This down jacket, filled with 10% down and 90% recycled feathers, has a guaranteed fill power of 700 CUIN (international standard) or over.
What are recycled feathers?
Using recycled feathers involves using a mixture of down and feathers from products that cannot be reused. This limits the use of new resources by recycling existing materials that would otherwise be discarded. The quality of the filling is checked through lab tests to make sure it maintains its technical properties and keeps you warm.
Is this jacket water-repellent or waterproof?
This puffer jacket is water-repellent. Water-repellent fabrics allow water to run off their surface without being absorbed. This means the fabric doesn’t become waterlogged and stays warm. Water-repellency is achieved through a PFC-free treatment applied to the outer surface of the fabric, which may wear off with use. We recommend that you reactivate it after every wash using a reactivator. In wet weather, we recommend wearing a waterproof jacket over this down jacket.
How to care for a down jacket?
Worn all winter long, your puffer jacket will no doubt need washing. But don’t wash it too often, as this may cause its thermal and water-repellent properties to deteriorate. Machine wash at 30°C with 2-3 tennis balls and a detergent designed for down or technical clothing. Select a gentle spin cycle. Tumble dry it on the “cotton” setting with 2-3 tennis balls, and repeat several times until it is completely dry.
How to restore the fabric’s water-repellency
Once you have cleaned your padded jacket, we recommend you use a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. This renews the fabric’s water repellent properties and optimises its performance throughout the lifespan of your garment.
If my down jacket is snagged, can it be repaired?
When trekking, accidents can happen quickly. We recommend using our self-adhesive repair patches to fix your damaged down jacket and prevent the insulation from escaping. Otherwise, visit your local Decathlon store for a workshop repair.
