Windproof & Waterproof Hiking Jackets

Of course! At decathlon.com.gr you will find a wide variety of windproof and waterproof hiking jackets in men's, women's, and kids' sizes. Discover lightweight jackets with a waterproof membrane and taped seams that offer complete protection from rain and wind while maintaining high breathability on the mountain!

To choose the right size for a waterproof or windproof jacket, consider the extra layers you'll wear underneath, such as a thermal base layer or fleece.
If you plan to use it as an outer layer (3rd layer) in cold weather, choose one size larger than your usual size for freedom of movement without feeling tight around the shoulders.
In any case, you can consult the size guide on each product page!

The choice depends on the conditions and duration of your route! A rain poncho fits easily in your bag for emergencies and is ideal for sudden downpours, while covering both you and your backpack.
On the other hand, a technical waterproof hiking jacket offers better breathability, wind resistance, and greater freedom of movement on challenging trails.

Yes, at Decathlon you will find specialized children's waterproof and windproof jackets designed specifically for young hikers. They feature durable fabrics that provide both warmth and rain protection, as well as a lightweight design that folds easily into a backpack so kids stay dry during every outdoor activity.

A basic windproof jacket stops the wind but doesn't provide warmth, so in winter it must be paired with thermal base layers and a fleece jacket underneath.
If you expect very low temperatures or rain, opt for a waterproof winter jacket with an integrated warm lining or down filling for complete protection.

Waterproofing is measured in millimeters (mm) based on the "Schmerber" standard. This indicates how much water pressure the fabric can withstand before it starts leaking.
2,000 mm: Basic protection for a brief, light downpour (approx. 2 hours).
5,000 mm - 10,000 mm: Good waterproofing for classic hikes in normal rain conditions.
15,000 mm - 25,000 mm: Top-tier protection, designed for multi-hour storms, torrential rain, or mountain blizzards.
Consult the description on each product page to check your hiking jacket's specific waterproofing rating and choose the one that suits you best!

Yes, provided you choose the right model! For heavy and prolonged rain, it is crucial that the jacket features 100% taped/heat-sealed seams so that water does not penetrate the stitching, as well as waterproof zippers. Decathlon's technical hardshell jackets with a rating over 15,000 mm are tested in a dedicated storm chamber for hours to guarantee you remain completely dry, making them the perfect choice if you are looking for a jacket to protect you from heavy rain!

Technical waterproof hiking jackets require specific care to retain their properties. First, wash your jacket in the washing machine on a delicate/synthetics cycle at 30°C, and remember to close all zippers and velcro fastenings and turn the jacket inside out. Use liquid detergent only, preferably one specifically formulated for technical apparel, and never use fabric softener or bleach, as they will clog the membrane pores and destroy breathability. When it comes to rinsing and spinning, set a double rinse cycle to remove all soap residues and set the spin speed to very low (maximum 600 rpm).
To maintain and renew your jacket's water-repellent properties (DWR), you can reactivate the coating by placing the jacket in the tumble dryer for 10-15 minutes on a low heat setting, or by using the specific DWR renewal sprays available at Decathlon.
