What improvements does this shoe offer compared to the previous version?
Thanks to your feedback, we’ve slightly adjusted the fit and point of the shoe to offer greater comfort and forgiveness, without compromising precision. The metatarsal area and the tops of the toes have been slightly enlarged. We’ve also revised the thickness of the microfibre to allow the shoe to adapt better to the shape of your foot.
What size should you choose for these shoes?
When increasing your intensity, opt for a size slightly smaller than your usual shoe size (half a size to a full size smaller). However, it is important not to feel any discomfort so that your foot can develop mobility, proprioception and strength. For advanced climbers, try 1 to 2 sizes smaller to find the best balance between comfort and compression for more power in the push.
What is the difference between this version and the Vertika Soft ( Ref. :8916466) also in shop?
This version offers more power and better grip on small holds, making it versatile, with benefits for routes. The softer, more flexible version adapts better to volume and is ideal for bouldering. Both models are designed to encourage progression: they are technical but remain forgiving of mistakes. Please note: this model has a slightly narrower build than the Vertika Soft. The choice will depend on your preferences and type of climbing.
How does this shoe provide precision and comfort?
The shoe has a slightly arched and asymmetrical shape. Combined with moderate heel tension and a full-length insert, it provides greater precision and power in the big toe. The three-piece construction of the point provides plenty of volume on top of the toes, offering comfort and excellent feel. Finally, the double rip-tab system ensures a precise fit, especially by tightening the point if necessary.
What are the features of the sole on this shoe?
The sole is manufactured from 4 mm-thick Vibram XS GRIP rubber. Soft and grippy, it features a thermoplastic insert running the full length of the foot, offering a good balance between grip feel and power when you plant your foot on small holds.
Does this shoe stretch over time?
The upper of the shoe is made from 2mm-thick synthetic leather to provide the right balance between a comfortable fit to the shape of the foot and optimal support. The shoe will mould to the shape of your foot after 1 or 2 sessions.
How long does the sole last?
The better a rubber's grip, the faster it wears out, especially in indoor climbing. We chose to work with Vibram, a recognised expert, and selected the rubber that offers the best balance between durability and grip. Our tests show that on average, rubber wears away in 6 months. This can vary depending on how well you place your feet.
Where can you resole your shoes when the soles are worn?
A worn sole may reveal the synthetic leather through the rubber. If this happens, it’s time to have your shoes resoled. It is important to do this quickly: If you pierce the synthetic leather, resoling will not be possible. Visit our Decathlon stores to find out where to resole your shoe. Once you’ve changed the sole, you can carry on climbing in a shoe that’s already moulded to the shape of your foot.
How to maintain your Vertika climbing shoes
We strongly advise against machine-washing your shoes, as the mechanical and thermal stresses could damage them. Wash them by hand using a sponge dampened with clean water or dish soap, and leave them to air-dry, avoiding direct sources of warmth (such as radiators or direct sunlight).
