Mountaineering Harnesses

Of course! At decathlon.com.gr you will find a full collection of certified climbing harnesses for mountaineering and climbing. The range includes adjustable sport climbing sit harnesses, lightweight alpinism harnesses, as well as chest harnesses from specialized Decathlon brands, meeting all international UIAA and CE (EN 12277) safety standards.

For proper harness fitting, the main waistbelt should sit directly above your pelvic bones and over your clothing.
When you tighten the buckle, the waistbelt must fit firmly enough that it cannot slide down over your hips, while still allowing you to slide your flat hand between the belt and your body. Simultaneously, the leg loops should fit comfortably without pinching your thighs excessively.

For routes requiring natural protection, a harness with at least 4 to 5 rigid gear loops is recommended.
On these routes you carry a large volume of gear (nuts sets, active cams/friends, slings, quickdraws, and locking carabiners), so 4-5 spacious gear loops provide proper weight distribution and immediate accessibility to your hardware.

A climbing harness must be replaced immediately in the following cases:
1. After an extreme, severe fall or heavy shock load.
2. If it exhibits wear, cuts, or fraying on the central belay loop or safety tie-in points. Many harnesses feature a red wear indicator in the loop.
3. If metallic buckles show cracks, deformation, or corrosion.
4. After 10 years from the manufacture date (or 3-5 years of regular use), due to natural textile fiber aging.

A chest harness is used exclusively in combination with a sit harness and offers two main advantages:
1. It raises the climber's center of gravity, preventing backward body inversion during a fall when carrying a heavy backpack.
2. It keeps the torso upright, facilitating fixed rope ascents and proper positioning of a chest ascender blocker.
