Will I find mountaineering anchor gear at decathlon.com.gr?

Of course! At decathlon.com.gr you will find certified climbing and mountaineering gear for creating safe anchors and belay stations. The collection includes ascenders and stoppers, ropes and anchors, harnesses, hooks, quickdraws and carabiners, slings, cordelettes, as well as complete sets from specialized Decathlon brands, meeting all international UIAA and CE safety standards.

What gear do I need to set up a safe belay station on a multi-pitch route?

To set up a complete and safe belay station (relais) on a multi-pitch route, you will essentially need:
1. A strong dynamic 120 cm sling or 6-7 mm tech cordelette for equalizing anchor points.
2. At least 3-4 locking HMS carabiners.
3. A belay device (auto-blocking or tuber/reverso style).
4. Your personal lanyard / PAS for direct attachment to the master point of the belay station.

What is the difference between a permanent and a temporary anchor point?

The main difference lies in infrastructure and gear dependency:
• A permanent anchor point consists of fixed protection placed in the rock, such as glue-in bolts, hanger plates, or abseil rings, which remain permanently on the crag.
• A temporary anchor point is built by the climber during the ascent using removable protection (nuts, cams, slings around natural features like trees or rock horns) and is retrieved once the route is completed.

How many independent points should a reliable anchor have?

The golden rule of climbing safety dictates that a reliable anchor station must consist of at least 2 independent, strong points (or 3 when using traditional protection like cams and nuts).
These points must always be connected together to ensure redundancy and equalization, so that if one point fails, the second will hold the load without experiencing a dangerous dynamic shock load.

Is it safe to rely on a single bolt in granite rock?

No! Even though solid granite offers excellent rock quality and a modern bolt has very high static strength, the principle of redundancy always applies in climbing.
Never base your life safety or a main belay station on a single point, as hidden structural failure, corrosion, or improper bolt installation is always a risk. Always equalize at least two points together!
