Kettlebells

A kettlebell is a traditional fitness tool shaped like a cannonball with a cast-iron handle. Due to its unique design, the center of mass is displaced beyond the handle, which allows for momentum to be built during movement. It is primarily used for functional training, cross-training, and dynamic movements that combine strength training, cardiovascular endurance, and flexibility.
Some of the most popular exercises it is used for are:
Kettlebell Swings: The most famous exercise, which engages the entire posterior chain (glutes, hamstrings, lower back, upper back).
Turkish Get-Up: An excellent, compound movement for shoulder stability and core strength (abs and lower back).
Goblet Squats: Deep squats done while holding the weight close to the front of your chest.
Clean and Press/Snatch: Demanding, explosive Olympic-style movements that provide a full-body workout.

Of course! On decathlon.com.gr you will find a comprehensive collection of authentic kettlebells to elevate your workouts at the gym as well as in your home gym! Find cast-iron kettlebells now, which are exceptionally durable with a rubber base to protect your floor from impacts, as well as kettlebells with a soft, fabric base that are ideal for home workouts since they reduce noise and the risk of damage to tiles or wooden floors. A top choice is also our adjustable kettlebells, as they allow you to change the weight by adding or removing discs, offering immense space and money-saving flexibility!

Because most kettlebell movements are multi-joint and explosive, it is crucial to start with a weight that allows you to fully master your technique. An ideal general rule for starting out is to choose 4 kg to 8 kg for learning proper technique and for pressing exercises. If you have no prior experience with weights, this range is perfect for learning the right form in shoulder exercises (presses) or complex movements like the Turkish Get-Up, without overloading your joints.
If you already have a basic baseline of fitness, opt for 8 kg to 12 kg kettlebells for momentum-based and lower-body exercises. This is the perfect starting weight for dynamic exercises that utilize body momentum, such as Kettlebell Swings and Goblet Squats. Larger muscle groups (glutes, legs) need this baseline resistance to properly engage the hips.
Extra Tip: If you want a piece of equipment that "grows" alongside your strength, you can pick an adjustable kettlebell from Decathlon, allowing you to customize the weight according to the exercise!

Even though they are used for similar fitness goals, their structural difference changes how the body is trained:
Center of Mass: In a dumbbell, the weight is evenly distributed across both ends and the center of mass aligns directly with the handle. In a kettlebell, the weight hangs below the handle.
Type of Exercises: Dumbbells are ideal for controlled, isolated movements (e.g., bicep curls, chest presses), whereas kettlebells are designed for ballistic, explosive movements and swings, where the weight moves via momentum.
Muscle Activation: Due to the displaced center of mass, the kettlebell forces the stabilizing muscles of the body and the core (abs) to work much harder to maintain balance.

Absolutely! A kettlebell is perhaps the most complete "portable gym" you can own. Because its fundamental movements are compound, engaging multiple muscle groups at the same time, you can complete a full-body routine with just a single piece of equipment.
By combining exercises like Kettlebell Swings (for legs and glutes), Goblet Squats (for quadriceps), Kettlebell Rows (for the back), and Overhead Presses (for shoulders and chest), you can build muscular strength while simultaneously executing a powerful high-intensity cardio workout to burn calories, using just one kettlebell!
