Can I find dive watches & computers available at decathlon.com.gr?

Of course! At decathlon.com.gr you will find specialized dive watches and computers that serve as the most valuable safety and performance advisor for your every dive. The dive computers in our collection are designed to provide you with all the critical real-time information you need underwater, such as exact depth and apnea duration. As soon as you surface, they automatically calculate the critical surface recovery time to prevent Taravana or decompression sickness (the bends). At the same time, they combine top underwater technology with a stylish, sporty design for your daily life, featuring easy-to-read displays and durable straps that fit perfectly over the sleeve of your neoprene wetsuit.

What is a dive computer and why do I need it?

A dive computer is a specialized digital instrument in the form of a wristwatch that continuously measures depth and time during a dive, making it your most critical safety and performance advisor. The main reason you need it is to protect your health from the effects of pressure. The device monitors apnea time and automatically calculates the necessary surface recovery time (surface time) before your next dive so that nitrogen can be eliminated from your body, preventing serious accidents like Taravana. At the same time, it is the ultimate companion for improving your performance, as it records diving/ascent speed, water temperature, and your number of dives, storing them in a digital logbook for you to analyze your progress.

What is the difference between a dive computer and a simple dive watch?

The main difference lies in the data-processing capability: a simple dive watch passively shows mainly the time, duration, and depth, functioning more as a durable accessory, while a dive computer uses advanced algorithms to protect your health in real time. The dive computer is a living processor. Using mathematical models, it calculates nitrogen concentration in your tissues and shows you exactly how much recovery time (surface time) you must spend on the surface before your next dive, actively preventing decompression sickness. At the same time, it offers visual and audible alerts (e.g., for excessive ascent speed) and features a digital logbook with mobile connectivity, recording water temperature and the full history of your performance.

What depth rating do I need in a watch for spearfishing?

In spearfishing and freediving, a watch's stated water resistance rating does not represent the actual depth you can dive to, but rather the static pressure tested at the factory. To be completely safe, you need a specialized watch or dive computer with a high nominal water resistance rating (typically 100 meters or more). These devices are built with reinforced materials and special gaskets to withstand the increasing water pressure as you descend, ensuring they will function accurately without the risk of water ingress, even on shallow dives.

Is a dive computer necessary for beginners?

Although not strictly mandatory for your first dives, a dive computer is now considered the most important safety tool, even for a beginner diver. Instead of relying on traditional dive tables that require calculations and can cause stress, an easy-to-use computer handles all the hard work automatically. It informs you of your depth in real time, shows you when to slow down during ascent, and reminds you of your safety stop. This way, you gain control and confidence much faster, allowing you to focus on proper breathing and buoyancy while enjoying the deep with absolute peace of mind. At Decathlon, you will find extremely user-friendly devices, ideal for your first underwater steps. Meanwhile, to ensure a complete and comfortable experience, pair your computer with a quality mask, snorkel, and the appropriate spearfishing fins, which will offer you perfect visibility and effortless movement on every exploration!

How do I properly care for my dive watch or computer?

Proper maintenance of your dive watch or computer is the only way to ensure your device remains reliable and watertight for many years. The most important step is a thorough rinse with fresh, lukewarm water immediately after every dive, so that salt does not have time to dry and damage the sensors or buttons. Next, wipe it with a soft cloth and let it dry naturally in a shaded place. Additionally, avoid contact with sunscreens or chemicals that degrade the gaskets, and remember to always change the rubber O-ring every time you replace the battery. To keep all your gear in top condition, pair your computer with appropriate bags and dry transport bags, which will protect your devices from impacts, dust, and moisture during transport!
