Mountaineering Slings

Of course! At decathlon.com.gr you will find certified textile slings for climbing and mountaineering. The collection includes sewn Dyneema and Polyamide (Nylon) slings in various lengths (30 cm, 60 cm, 120 cm, 240 cm) and widths, as well as quickdraw extension slings from specialized Decathlon brands, meeting all international UIAA and CE safety standards.

Any knot significantly reduces the nominal strength of a sling, typically by 30% to 50%.
Especially on thin Dyneema slings, knots drastically reduce strength and can slip under heavy load due to the material's low friction. For this reason, we always use factory-sewn slings and avoid tying knots in Dyneema unless absolutely necessary.

For wrapping around natural anchors like tree trunks, a sling length of 120 cm to 240 cm is most suitable.
A 120 cm sling covers small to medium diameter trees, while wider trunks or choke hitch setups require a 240 cm sling to prevent load leverage on carabiners at sharp angles.

The lifespan of a textile sling is defined as up to 10 years from the manufacture date for stored/unused gear, or up to 5 years under normal usage.
However, a sling must be retired immediately if subjected to a severe fall or if showing visible wear, frayed stitching, or friction burns.

Yes, this is one of the most important uses of a sling!
By placing a 60 cm sling between the anchor protection (e.g. nut, cam, or bolt) and the rope carabiner, you create an "alpine quickdraw". This straightens the rope line, drastically reducing rope drag on wandering routes and preventing rope movement from dislodging the protection.
