Can I find anchoring, mooring equipment & sailing fenders available at decathlon.com.gr?

Yes, of course! At decathlon.com.gr you will find a curated collection of basic anchoring and mooring equipment for boats and inflatables. The range includes folding and classic anchors, durable mooring fenders, anchor ropes, chains, as well as shackles and rope snubbers.

How do I choose the right sailing anchor based on the boat's weight and type?

Choosing an anchor depends mainly on the displacement (weight) and length of the boat, as well as the seabed where you anchor. As a general rule for anchor weight, calculate approximately 1-1.5 kg of anchor per meter of boat (e.g., a 6-meter boat needs a 6-8 kg anchor).
Regarding the anchor type, you can choose a folding/grapnel anchor, which is ideal for small boats, inflatables, kayaks, or as a spare anchor, or a Danforth/Hall type anchor, which is very effective in sandy and muddy seabeds. The most popular choice for sailboats is the Plow/Delta type anchor, as it easily sets in most seabed types.

What mooring fenders do I need and where do I place them on my boat?

Fenders protect the boat's hull from friction against the dock or other vessels. You need at least 3-4 fenders on each side of the boat. Their diameter should match the size of the boat, covering the widest point.
They are hung from the guardrails or gunwale cleats and placed at the height where the boat protrudes the most to make first contact with the dock, as well as at points receiving the most pressure.

What is the difference between an anchor and a mooring line?

An anchor is the metal fitting lowered to the seabed to "grip" the bottom and keep the boat steady in open water or a bay without needing to be tied to shore.
A mooring line is the specialized, elastic rope used to tie the boat to a fixed structure, e.g., a dock cleat, a pier, or a mooring buoy.

How do I properly maintain sailing anchoring equipment to prevent corrosion?

Sea salt is the biggest enemy of metal fittings and ropes, so proper care is essential! After every anchoring session, thoroughly rinse the anchor, chain, fenders, and ropes with fresh water to remove salt and mud. Regularly check the anchor and chain for areas where galvanized protection has worn off, and if rust appears, clean it and apply cold galvanizing spray. Wash mooring lines periodically so they don't stiffen from salt crystals, extending their elasticity and durability.
