How do I correctly maintain a sailing hat after contact with salt water?

Salt dries out fibers and can weaken UV protection or damage plastic and metallic components. To keep it looking like new after every use, rinse the hat thoroughly with plenty of cold fresh water to remove the salt. You can wash it by hand with a little mild soap or in the washing machine at 30°C on a delicate cycle. Avoid using fabric softener, as it can alter the technical properties and breathability of the fabric. Allow it to dry naturally in a shaded spot. Do not put it in the dryer and do not leave it to dry directly under the hot sun, as high temperatures can warp its brim.
