Can I find waterproof sailing bags available on decathlon.com.gr?

Yes, on decathlon.com.gr you will find an excellent variety of waterproof bags and dry sacks, an essential accessory for your every sailing trip. Our collection includes duffel bags and backpacks made from durable, waterproof materials designed to keep your clothes and gear completely dry on board.

What level of waterproofing should a sailing bag have?

The waterproofing level depends on the intended use and deck conditions:
Water-resistant / Spray-proof (IPX4): Protects against rain and sea spray splashing on the boat. These are ideal for daily use.
Waterproof against brief submersion / Heavy waves (IPX6 or IPX7): These bags usually feature roll-top closures and heat-sealed seams. They are essential if the bag is going to be left on an open deck, in a rigid inflatable boat (RIB), or if there is a chance it might fall into the water, ensuring not a single drop penetrates the interior.

What average capacity of a waterproof sailing bag do I need as a beginner?

For someone starting out now who takes day sails or training sessions, the ideal capacity is 30 to 40 liters. This is the perfect size to hold a change of clothes, a towel, your foul weather jacket, a water bottle, your gloves, and your sailing shoes.
If you are planning a multi-day trip on a cruising sailboat, you will need a larger duffel bag ranging from 60 to 90 liters to comfortably fit more clothes, bed sheets, and anything else you might need.

Are there waterproof sailing bags with a shoulder strap and handles?

Yes, most marine duffel bags are designed with smart transport systems. They feature an adjustable and padded shoulder strap for easy carrying, side handles so you can move and secure them easily inside the cabin or cockpit, and many models can also convert into backpacks thanks to their dual shoulder straps.

How do I properly clean and maintain a sailing bag after use?

Proper care extends the lifespan of waterproof materials and zippers, so you must remember to rinse the exterior of the bag with plenty of fresh water after every use to remove salt and sand. If you have kept wet clothes in your bag, wipe down the interior with a damp cloth and some mild soap. If the bag has zippers, clean them thoroughly of salt to prevent them from oxidizing or jamming. Finally, let the bag dry completely with all compartments open in a shaded area. Never store it damp, to prevent mold growth, and do not leave it exposed to the hot sun, as high temperatures degrade waterproof coatings and heat-sealed seams.
