Children's sailing shoes and boots are suitable from the moment a child starts coming into contact with the boat and the sea. At Decathlon, sailing shoes are available in sizes starting from number 24-26 for very young children and up to 38. Organized club lessons usually start around the age of 6-7, at which point technical footwear becomes essential.
For summer shoes or neoprene booties, select your child's regular size, as they must fit precisely on the foot to prevent internal slipping. For winter boots, opt for one size larger so there is enough room for thick, thermal socks without squeezing their toes.

Why does my child need sailing booties inside the boat?

Neoprene sailing booties are the most important piece of equipment for a training child. They provide anti-slip protection, as they feature a specialized rubber sole (non-marking) with water-dispersing grooves, preventing the child from slipping during constant and rapid movements inside the boat. Furthermore, the neoprene keeps the child's feet warm even if they are constantly wet, preventing rapid freezing that can ruin their training session, while the booties simultaneously protect the child's toes and ankles from painful impacts and scratches.

How often should I change my child's sailing shoes?

For children, replacements are primarily made for two reasons:
Foot growth: Because children grow quickly, the shoe must be changed as soon as the foot begins to touch the front. Never let a child wear tight neoprene booties or boots, as the pressure combined with cold water will cut off proper blood circulation and their feet will freeze instantly.
Sole wear: If your child uses the shoes frequently, check the bottom regularly. As soon as the grooves on the sole begin to fade or flatten, the shoe loses its slip-resistant property and must be replaced immediately for their safety on the boat.
