Can I find bindings & straps for kitesurfing on decathlon.com.gr?

Yes, of course! On decathlon.com.gr you will find ergonomic sets of bindings and straps (footstraps) for your board. Our collection focuses on providing premium comfort, stability, and easy adjustment so that you can enjoy your riding and jumps with absolute safety.

What are kitesurf bindings and what purpose do they serve?

In kitesurfing, the term "bindings" typically refers to the integrated system consisting of the pads, which are the soft anatomical base where the foot rests, and the footstraps, which are the adjustable straps that wrap over the top of the foot.
They serve to connect your body to the board, allowing you to steer the board, edge against the wind, and maintain control in choppy water. They also enable jumps, since without straps, the board would fly off your feet the moment you took off from a wave. Lastly, they absorb impacts. The pads are made of double or triple density EVA foam, protecting your heels, knees, and joints during hard landings.

How do I choose the right size for kitesurf straps?

Most manufacturers divide sets into 2 or 3 basic sizes (e.g., S/M and L/XL, or One Size with a massive adjustment range). The choice is mainly based on your shoe size and whether you wear neoprene booties.
If you are between sizes and kitesurf in the winter with thick neoprene booties (3mm to 5mm), prefer the larger size (L/XL) to ensure you have adequate space.
It is important to have a correct fit. When you insert your foot, the strap should cover the instep without pressing on the toes. You should be able to release your foot relatively easily in the event of a crash, but it should not "float" at all while riding.

Do I need bindings compatible with my board or are they universal?

Most pad/strap systems are considered universal, but there are two important technical details you should check before buying.
Insert Spacing: Most modern twin-tip boards have a standard spacing of 6 inches (15.2 cm) between the screws. Many bindings feature multiple slots in their base so that they can fit both 6-inch and older 6.5-inch systems.
Tracks vs Inserts systems: Some companies use track systems instead of fixed holes. Decathlon bindings are designed to easily adapt to most classic twin-tips on the market, while also offering the ability to adjust the angle (duck stance).

What are the risks of using worn out or wrongly positioned kitesurf straps?

The condition of your footstraps directly impacts your physical safety. The main risk is injuries to the knees and ankles. If one strap is too loose and the other too tight, during a crash one foot may pop out while the other remains trapped in the board. The board will then act as a lever, violently twisting the trapped leg.
Additionally, if the Velcro is worn out from salt and sun, the strap might open up during a jump or a turn, leading to a nasty crash or the loss of your board in deep water.
Finally, if the straps are positioned at the wrong angle or are excessively tight, they compress the nerves and restrict proper blood flow to the sole, forcing you to end your session prematurely.
