Spearfishing Boots

Of course! At decathlon.com.gr you will find specialized spearfishing booties (neoprene socks) which are essential for protecting your feet and ensuring the proper fit of your fins. Made of neoprene, they offer the necessary thermal insulation to keep your feet warm in the water, while also preventing painful friction and blisters from your fins' foot pocket. An extra bonus is their non-slip protection on the bottom for absolute stability and safety when walking on slippery rocks or stones to enter the sea, protecting your soles from sea urchins and sharp objects. For a complete experience, combine them with gloves, wetsuits, and spearfishing hoods / balaclavas, ensuring not only top insulation from the cold, but also absolute protection from stings, sun, and sharp rocks on every dive!

For the Greek summer, the ideal thickness for spearfishing booties (socks) is 1.5mm to 3mm, as the water temperature is high. An option at 1.5mm to 2mm is extremely thin and elastic, offering top comfort and coolness without overheating your foot during long dives. However, if you plan to do long ambushes, dive into deeper, cold currents, or if you get cold easily, the 3mm option is the ideal all-around solution, as it protects better against fin pocket pressure and can be worn comfortably from spring to autumn.

The basic rule is to choose your regular shoe size. Due to the high elasticity of neoprene, the bootie must fit tightly over your foot like a second skin, without creating air gaps or "pockets" at the heel. The ideal way to make sure is to try them on together with your fins. Your foot should slide into the fin pocket securely and comfortably, without being excessively squeezed or causing your toes to curl. If you feel intense pressure or numbness, you might need a larger sock size (or a larger fin foot pocket).

Spearfishing booties (socks) are designed to fit most fins, but their compatibility depends on the type and size of your fins. They are ideal for closed-foot pocket fins, as they fill the gap and protect against friction; however, for open-heel fins with a strap, simple socks are not enough, and hard-soled boots are required. At the same time, you must calculate the volume of the neoprene: if the fin already fits tightly on a bare foot, the bootie will squeeze you too much, causing cramps or numbness. That is why, when buying freediving fins, it is recommended to choose them 1-2 sizes larger than your regular size.

The first and most important step is to rinse them thoroughly with plenty of fresh water immediately after use to remove salt and sand. Next, turn them inside out and let them dry completely in a shaded and well-ventilated area, as direct exposure to the sun destroys the material. Since booties sweat easily, you can occasionally wash them by hand with a mild soap to neutralize bacteria. For storage, make sure they are 100% dry and lay them flat, without creasing them or placing heavy objects on top of them.
