TECHNICAL INFORMATIONS

The E-EDR AF Ethos

The E-EDR AF is part of our endurance range. AF stands for aluminium frame. The bikes in our endurance range are designed for cyclists whose priority is the pleasure of riding.
With its aluminium frame and the Mahle kit (3.5 kg), this electric road bike is both light and comfortable.
To keep you safe, the entire range is equipped with hydraulic disc brakes as well as 32 mm tyres.

What is an E-bike?

E-bikes are all the rage right now. E-biking is still cycling ‒ you're not cruising along on a moped.
But thanks to the variable assistance, you can travel further afield than normal and take on new challenges.
E-bikes are all about enjoyment. They help you get up tough climbs while still having enough energy left to conquer the next one too!
There is legislation limiting the speed of e-bikes to 25 km/h. Above this speed, the assistance cuts out.

What are the bike's capabilities?

The Mahle battery and motor kit delivers 250 Wh of battery life. If you want to increase your bike's battery range even more, you'll need to add an external battery.
We selected a panel of testers who rode the bike over a 6-month period in different weather conditions, up different gradients and with different assistance levels so that we could give you the most accurate data about this bike.
The bike has 3 different assistance levels.

How does the extender work?

The extender is an external battery that you connect to the main battery at the start of your ride.
As the main battery drains, the extender starts to fuel it.

You can buy the battery extender on our website.

Things to know about the battery

When the battery drops below 7%, no matter your assistance level, the assistance will drop to a very low level so that you can get home safely.

The battery is designed to last 5 years / 500 charge cycles. After this, it will lose some range.

The battery is not removable and must be charged by plugging the bike in.
It takes between 4 and 5 hours to charge it fully.

BC 900 bike computer

This bike comes with the BC 900 bike computer. It has been specially designed for this bike and is the perfect way to interact with your bike.

This GPS computer tells you the battery level, how much range you have left and your assistance level.
You can connect the BC900 to the Decathlon Connect app for more details on your rides.

Connectivity

The Mahle X35 system has Ant+ and Bluetooth so that you can connect your phone or normal bike computer if you don't want to use the BC900.

The Mahle app also lets you tweak your settings and access data about your rides.

Frame and fork

The frame has an endurance-style geometry. Everything about this bike is designed so that you can enjoy your ride to the max.
The welding is polished smooth on the most visible joints to make the bike more elegant.
The fork is 100% carbon for incredibly precise steering. It also has mounting holes on the sides that can carry up to 4 kg on each blade.
You can carry up to 10 kg on a pannier rack if you choose to install one.Compatible with tyres up to 700x35.

The E-EDR AF's cockpit is made entirely of aluminium, with a Van Rysel stem and handlebar.
The stem size varies depending on the bike size:

What's the benefit of a single-chainring drive train?

The emergence of 12-speed cassettes opens up new possibilities for the 1x drive train.
Of course, their ease of use remains their main advantage. The amount of weight you save shouldn't be overlooked either, with a whole derailleur gone and only one chainring to carry.
They're also much easier to service and maintain, plus you can ride at 40 km/h or climb a hill without having to switch chainring.
1x drive trains are particularly good for e-bikes.

Electronic Sram Apex AXS single-chainring drive train

This version comes with an Sram Apex 1x12-speed electronic groupset with the following components:

Sram Apex 1x 42T chainset
Variable crank length depending on bike size
XS 165 mm
S 170 mm
M 172.5 mm
L 175 mm
XL 175 mm

Cassette: Sram XPLR PG 11-44 speed (11-12-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32-38-44)
Rear derailleur: Sram Apex AXS (wireless electronic shifting)
Shifter: SRAM Apex AXS

Chain: Sram Apex
Bottom bracket: DUB PressFit bottom bracket

Drive train maintenance

Please note that it is important to regularly service your drive train, especially if you ride in difficult conditions (wet and/or dirty roads).
Regular maintenance will help your drive train to last for longer.

You should regularly check your chain with our chain wear indicator,
which is available on our website.

Lifespan of a drive train

When buying a bike, it's important to take into account the cost of servicing it, especially as regards the drive train.
The amounts below are averages and are given so that you have a general idea of what to expect. They will of course vary depending on the care you take of your drive train.

The average lifespan of a well-maintained chain is 5000 km.
The average lifespan of a cassette is 10,000-12,000 km.

A poorly maintained chain can jump, which can damage your bike's frame.

Disc brakes

Sram Apex disc brakes with 160 mm rotors at the front and back.
The Sram Apex brakes are hydraulic. This gives you progressive, more powerful braking than with cable-actuated hydraulic brakes.

You will need to bed these brakes in. Just do a set of 20 progressive brakes at a low speed (20 km/h), then a second set at 30 km/h. You need to thoroughly wear in both brakes.
This enables better traction between the pad and the disc.

Hydraulic brake maintenance

Hydraulic brakes function using a closed circuit between your brake lever and your caliper.
There is a hose to maintain the seal.
With time, you'll see a normal loss of pressure in your hoses, leading to a loss of braking efficiency. When your brake guard is too soft, or you stop short against your handlebar, you need to bleed your system. This requires specific tools and knowledge.

Warning and adjustment

PLEASE NOTE:never squeeze the brakes without a wheel being attached, as you could get the brake pads stuck together.

If your disc touches, follow these instructions to re-align the wheel and the caliper:

- Loosen the wheel axle
- Brake hard and tighten the wheel axle at the same time
- If the disc touches again, you'll need to do the same thing while loosening the caliper
- If the problem continues, visit a store.

Wheels and tyres

Van Rysel wheels, specially designed for e-bikes.
19C inner rim width
12x100 front axle
Special rear axle
Tubeless-ready wheels.
Please note: always carry a 17 mm spanner with you so you can take your back wheel off if you get a puncture!

Van Rysel 32 mm tyre: the perfect balance of performance and durability. We expect it to last for 6000 km in normal road cycling conditions.
