The shape of the mat: the right material in the right places.
Most mats on the market are rectangular, but we are not rectangular when lying down. So we have decided to add 2 wings on both sides of the mat to accommodate the widest parts of the body when lying down: the elbows. This is in order to make the most of the mat’s size.
On the front, there is a waterproof pocket for storing shooting tables and/or smartphones in case of light rain.
Good balance between comfort and shooting stability
To guarantee good comfort when lying on the mat without feeling of instability of a mattress, we opted for a 10 mm-thick PE foam with a density of 26 kg/m3. This foam is used in the main part of the mat and in the 2 wings. In order to increase the compact design of the mat, we chose not to add foam at the bottom of the mat at calf level (this part of the body doesn't generally need to be supported when shooting from a prone position).
A modern mat
In 2021, the year the mat was designed, a good number of shooters swapped their paper shooting tables for a digital version using an app on their smartphone. In order to use this technology in the rain, we chose to install a transparent plastic pocket allowing shooters to shelter their smartphones and use the touch screen through the plastic pocket.
